Gist of chairmen's summary of WTO talks in Dalian
 2005-7-14 1:00:57

The following is the gist of a chairmen's summary issued Wednesday after two days of talks held in Dalian by ministers of about 30 of the 148 World Trade Organization members.

-- There is an urgent need to make the maximum progress in farm talks by the end of July.

-- A tariff cut proposal by developing countries should be used as a basis for further agricultural market-access negotiations.

-- The possibility of a Swiss formula with coefficients that would accommodate specific concerns of poor countries could be further explored for tariff cuts on industrial goods.

-- The development dimension should be substantively integrated in all areas of the Doha Round of global trade talks.

-- Comprehensive modalities for agriculture and non-farm market access should be established at the WTO ministerial talks in Hong Kong in December for a successful conclusion of the Doha Round by the end of 2006.
