The implementation of reform and opening-up has injected vigor and
vitality into Dalian.
As one of the largest
foreign-trade port cities in China, Dalian plays a very active role in import
and export trade. From January to October, 1999, Dalian has accomplished the
import and export trade of USD 5.6 billion, among which is export of USD 3.2
billion, with increase of 14.18% and 10.15% respectively over the same period of
last year. The structure of export commodities has been constantly improving,
and commodities have been sold to over 150 countries and regions around the
world. The foreign trade keeps a favorable momentum.
Dalian
is considered as an ideal investment destination by domestic and overseas
investors. The increasingly sound investment environment attracts a crowd of
business people to Dalian from home and abroad. By the end of October 1999,
8,022 foreign-funded enterprises have been totally approved, with contractual
investment of USD 17.78 billion and actually utilized capital of USD 7.41
billion. A group of worldly famous multinationals have come to Dalian for
setting up production facilities, including Matsuhita, Cannon, Toshiba, Sanyo,
Citizen from Japan, Pfizer, Goodyear from USA, Total from France, Hyundai and
POSCO from Korea and etc. The utilization of foreign investment has become a new
growth point of Dalian‘―s economy.
The foreign economic and
technological cooperation develops to a new stage every year. In the first 10
months of this year, Dalian has concluded 619 contracts for foreign engineering
contracting and labor export, with total contractual capital USD 138 million.
The number of export labors totals 13,000, and up to now, nearly 14,000 export
labors are still working outside.
Varying indicators surpass those of
the same period last year. The activities in foreign economic relations and
trade are increasingly frequent. By the end of October, nearly 120,000 business
people from over 70 countries and regions
came to Dalian. The number of
representative offices and branches set up by enterprises and organizations from
foreign countries, Hong Kong and Macao is already up to
1631.
Dalian
is catching more and more attention from the world. Being open-minded and full
of enthusiasm, Dalian sincerely welcomes investors from all over the world,
carrying out economic cooperation and trade, and working together for a bright
future.
