5/15/2005 7:54:00 PM In the big game in the Middle Kingdom,
Shandong Luneng crashed to their first defeat of 2005 with a 3-2 defeat at Wuhan
Huangelou. A seventh straight win takes the newly-promoted team five points
clear of third place. Shandong, having reached the quarter-finals of the AFC
Champions League in mid-week, took a 21st minute lead with Li Xiaopeng only to
concede three goals courtesy of Brazilian pair Gilson, Vicente and Zheng Bin. A
penalty from international midfielder Zheng Zhi gave the 2004 runners-up a late
consolation. Dalian Shide maintained their lead at the top with a Li Ming
goal just before half-time that leaves the seven-time champions unbeaten after
nine games.
2004 Champions Shenzhen Jianlibao finally hit rock bottom
with a 3-1 defeat at home to fellow strugglers, Liaoning. Chen Xing hit
the back of the net twice for the away team with Xang Yu putting the game beyond
Shenzhen¡¯s reach on the hour mark, a result that gives Liaoning a second
straight victory. Oyawole Djima from Togo scored only the title-holder¡¯s second
of the season but it was too little to late for Chi Shangbin¡¯s team and the
coach is coming under increasing pressure just three months after taking over in
southern China.
Beijing Hyundai moved up to third with a 3-1 victory
over Shanghai Zobon and lie a point ahead of Zobon¡¯s city rivals Shenhua who
fought back from two goals down to rescue a point at home to Tianjin Teda. Zhang
Shou opened the scoring for the sixth placed team in the 23rd minute and the
visitors extended their lead three minutes later through midfielder Lu Yan. Two
goals from Xie Hui in each half keeps Shanghai in fifth place.
In the
weekend¡¯s other fixtures Qingdao Zhongheng and Chongqing Qiche failed to break
through each other¡¯s defences and Sichuan Guancheng and Inter Shanghai shared
two goals and the points after Shanghai¡¯s Ghanaian import Kwame Ayew scored from
the spot after quarter of an hour only to see Zou Yengen also score from the
penalty spot to level the scores.
