ING announced today that Mr Alexander Rinnooy Kan, Executive Board Member of
ING Group and Chairman of ING Insurance Asia/Pacific has been awarded Honorary
Citizenship of the city of Dalian, Liaoning Province, in North-eastern
China.
ING began investing in the city of Dalian in 1996, following the
establishment of an insurance representative office. By the end of 2002, ING had
established the first Sino-foreign insurance company to operate in the city, ING
Capital Life, with its joint venture partner Beijing Capital Group.
In
his acceptance speech, Mr Rinnooy Kan expressed his appreciation to the Mayor of
Dalian, Xia Deren and the citizens of Dalian for the award, stating:
"I
am both flattered and proud to be an honorary citizen of a city known as the
'Pearl of Northern China'. This award recognises the serious commitment that I
and ING Group places on the business, cultural and social development of Dalian.
ING will continue to support Dalian and invest here as our business activities
grow."

ING Capital Life is the third largest provider of individual insurance in
Dalian in terms of new business premiums. ING Capital Life secured a separate
license to set-up a second branch in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province,
and became the first Sino-foreign joint venture to begin operation in the city.
Operations are expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2005.
